Can your mindset have an impact on your financial well-being? Abso-flippin’-lutely. A growth mindset creates space for abundance and a scarcity mindset creates a cycle of scarcity. When it comes to money, are you living in fear of not having enough every month? Break the cycle and you will break the fear and start living in abundance!
Stop Living in Scarcity
Ah yes, the scarcity mentality. Waking up every day hoping nothing expensive breaks, waiting for the 1st or the 15th of the month to pay the bills, watching your bank account grow and shrink without any real sense of control. I’ve been there and done that. And so have my clients.
We are so conditioned to see limits – after all, so many resources are in fact limited. Here’s where it gets tricky: when it comes to financial matters, it works against us when we put limits on what we value, what we’re worth, and what we’re willing to settle for.
Do you ever tell yourself, “I just don’t think I will ever have enough to do what I want or deserve?” Annnnd…breathe. A scarcity mentality is exactly what keeps so many of us from breaking out of the fear cycle so that we can start living an abundant life. If you want to get your $hit together with your money potential, getting over this hurdle is so important. Coming at your financial health from an abundance mentality can be the catalyst you need for positive change, so let’s take a much closer look at how to do it.
Start By Modeling An Abundance Mindset
What you look for is what you will get. Read that again! Now, let me prove it: Did you ever really want a red car? And then you started seeing red cars everywhere you went. Your mind was thinking about that red car, even when you were doing entirely different tasks. You subconsciously asked for that car and the universe tried to deliver by showing you red cars. The same holds true with money and success. Tell the universe that you are ready to live in abundance, and it will start giving you abundance!
But living in abundance is easier said than done when we’re so used to those negative, scarcity thoughts. Do you have any ingrained thoughts that are getting in the way of attracting abundance? Here’s how to fix that.
Train your mind to see possibilities
If you want more, it’s time to start seeing more. One Harvard study found that when we hang on to a strong idea, other possibilities that may seem obvious to others won’t even blip our radar. The brain can only absorb so much, so if you are telling yourself the singular idea that things are too scarce, then any thoughts that bubble up to challenge that notion will get pushed right back down. Ask yourself this: am I accidentally limiting myself by only focusing on what I don’t have instead of looking around at what I do have? Allow yourself to recognize ALL the possibilities around you.
Express gratitude
A scarcity mentality feeds off of fear and uncertainty. Taking the time to appreciate what you already have can halt that fear dead in its tracks. Gratitude is the heart of abundance. Just like Oprah Winfrey said, “If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.”
Find your tribe
Surround yourself with people that share an abundance mentality, or people who are working towards it! It’s empowering, validating, and a lot more effective than trying to change your mindset alone or in the presence of negative people. Optimistic people feed off of other optimistic people. Success-oriented people feed off of other people working towards success. Together, we can accomplish so much!
Ditch the scarcity mindset. Living in abundance is the best start to a healthy relationship with your money. Knowing that your financial goals are absolutely possible will make them possible! But it doesn’t work without putting in the work, and it really helps to have support.
