Real Money Talk: Navigating Student Loans

by | Sep 12, 2022

Everyone’s minds are on student loans these days, and for good reason: President Biden’s announcements regarding government loan forgiveness made headlines everywhere. Student loans in the United States are a huge, complicated problem that millions of Americans are dealing with – and in this episode of my podcast, we tackle this subject head-on! Wondering what options you have and what you need to know about your own student loan forgiveness? This episode is for you.

We are talking about navigating the never-ending mess of student loan debt in America. Rather than getting lost in the politics, it’s a matter of fact-sharing. My community needs to know the facts so that they can make informed decisions. My guest Alexis Enterline has been a licensed social worker for over 15 years and is now a certified Life Coach and Money Mentor. She shared her story on my show as one of my first guests, and you can listen to her journey here.

Lexy’s message about student loans? You’re not alone.

For so many Americans, the path to getting a college education usually includes student loans. According to bestcolleges.com, over 42 million Americans have federal student loans as of 2022. During our episode, Lexy discusses her experiences with student loan counseling, stigma, and the realities of being a single mom with lots of decisions to make. She learned about compounding interest, the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized loans, and the realities of post-graduate salaries even for credentialed workers.

Whatever you take from her story and our discussion on student loans, remember that we’re not giving blanket advice or telling you what to do. Each individual has their own unique situation – be present in your own situation before you take action.
